Submitted Thursday, February 12, 2009 - 16:35Description:
The case studies show different ways that filmmaking was integrated into the academic context.

Table of contents:
Genesis and Genre - Since film was a core part of the module, students spent a considerable part of their classroom time studying films and learning about filmmaking. They worked in groups to produce short dramatised sections of novels and plays by Galdós.
Understanding Law II - Students were asked to make a group-based presentation in an electronic format of their choice - video, podcast, screencast or a combination. Students had a two-hour workshop on shooting and editing, then worked independently.
Architecture - Post-graduate architecture students were offered the opportunity to use filmmaking as part of a large final project. They worked with a Norwegian filmmaker and had professional help in the form of 'master-classes' from Sheffield based filmmakers, then went on to make their own films.
Filming Shakespeare - Students were encouraged to creatively interpret a section of a Shakespeare play. Working in groups they storyboarded, directed and edited, with the support of a film crew.

The filmmaker's toolkit
Submitted Thursday, February 12, 2009 - 16:35Description:
This toolkit provides practical help and inspiration for students and staff interested in making films. With manual: online or downloadable as PDF (33 pages)
* Video technology has become easier to use, more available and far cheaper than ever before. More and more people are making their own videos and publishing them on the web, as YouTube testifies. But how do you get beyond ‘point and shoot' and what is the relevance of video production to education?
* Digital Video can be used in a number of ways in the classroom and the case studies show examples of a wide range of applications, together with student comment and reflection.
* The toolkit gives an overview of the filmmaking process, from initial idea to equipment needed to burning your DVD. It has been developed over several years and provides information and points to consider when making a film with an educational application in mind.
* The filmmaker's toolkit (downloadable as PDF) can be used as a standalone resource, in combination with workshops, or it can be more fully embedded into the learning and teaching of specific modules.

Overview of web-based video in education
Submitted Thursday, February 12, 2009 - 16:35Description:
Projects, initiatives and thoughts.
"In recent years there has been a growing interest in the creation and use of web-accessed digital video and audio throughout the education sector. The pedagogical vision is clear: only when video and audio are routine components of education and e-learning will we have an educational environment that reflects the media-rich world in which we now live."
